Meralco Power Academy (MPA), in partnership with Philippine Institute of Energy Management Professionals, Inc (PIEMPI), conducted the 2nd batch of Competency Course for Energy Managers (CCEM) last June 21 – 25 and 28 – 30, via Zoom. Thirty five (35) participants logged in for 8 days of online learning from subject matter experts Eugene Aurallo, Marionel Peralta, Robert Jarquio and Rommel Benig.

CCEM aims to strengthen competency to comply with the Department of Energy’s (DoE) requirements on energy efficiency and conservation. Topics include the implementation and improvement of energy efficiency measures, conduct of regular energy audit, and energy monitoring and control. Participants are taught how to prepare periodic reports on energy utilization and energy conservation.

A major learning from the course is how to reduce the risks brought about by the law and how to better manage the energy consumption of facilities, equipment and devices.   Participants appreciated how the course facilitators broke down theoretical principles into practical approaches for better understanding. One participant remarked that the sharing of database as a reference will prove to be useful in the creation and establishment of their own energy management system.

Regression Analysis was also discussed, giving the participants additional insight on theoretical principles of energy management. Participants gave the course facilitators high ratings with how they taught and engaged everyone to learn, share and discuss throughout the 8-day course.
