2023 Training Calendar

K-Ligtas (Kuryenteng Ligtas) is the electrical safety recognition program of the Meralco Power Academy — and the first safety recognition program of its kind in the Philippines — established to promote a stronger culture of safety across the Philippine energy and power sector.

Launched in 2024 at Mindanao State University–General Santos, PowerConvos began as the MPA's “Guest Lecture Series”. It is a knowledge-sharing initiative of the Meralco Power Academy that brings industry expertise directly to students through lectures, forums, and interactive discussions. As part of the academy's broader academic partnership efforts, the program aims to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and the energy sector and to prepare students for the realities of a rapidly evolving industry.

Through the series, students hear directly from Meralco leaders and engineers about where the energy industry is headed — be it in grid modernization and sustainability or in the skills shaping tomorrow's workforce.

K-Ligtas is implemented in collaboration with some of the country's leading authorities in electrical systems, labor management, public safety, and energy. These include:

  • The Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE)
  • The Department of Energy (DOE)
  • The Department of Labor and Employment – Occupational Safety and Health Center (DOLE-OSHC}
  • The Professional Regulation Commission Board of Electrical Engineering,
and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)

Together, these organizations support the program's mission to advance electrical safety standards, promote industry best practices, and foster safer workplaces across the Philippines.

K-Ligtas was introduced as part of Meralco Power Academy's broader efforts to advance electrical safety awareness and promote a culture of safety throughout the country, establishing a new standard for how organizations recognize and embed safety into their operations.

The program was formally launched at the National Electrical Safety Summit (NESS), an industry gathering that brings together stakeholders committed to improving electrical safety practices and building greater energy resilience across the sector. Through this platform, K-Ligtas established a new avenue to recognize organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to electrical and occupational safety.

Embedding safety performance across the industry

As the first program of its kind in the Philippines, K-Ligtas created an opportunity to highlight organizations that have successfully embedded safety into their corporate values, operational processes, and day-to-day decision-making. Over the years, it has reinforced the importance of electrical safety advocacy by showcasing organizations that prioritize employee well-being, risk management, and safety leadership — contributing to stronger safety performance standards across the industry.

Today, K-Ligtas remains an important component of Meralco Power Academy's commitment to promoting responsible energy practices, strengthening energy resilience, and supporting a safer future for the Philippine power industry. The program continues to champion electrical safety advocacy, inspire individuals and institutions to champion safer practices, and contribute to a more resilient energy sector for future generations.
