On December 12 in Paris, a historic pact was agreed on by 200 countries including the Philippines, to limit the increase in temperature to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. It is therefore quite timely that two of our colleagues in Meralco, Eugene Araullo of Meralco Power Academy and Danny Aquillo of CBG were recognized as National Experts on Energy Management Systems under the DOE-Philippine Industrial Energy Efficiency Project (PIEEP) during the 2015 Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards ceremonies.

The PIEEP promotes sustainable energy management system within the Philippine industrial setting and aims to contribute to climate change mitigation efforts.  With the technical assistance from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), this project supports the nation’s commitments to global environmental agreements, secure a low carbon future, and more importantly, achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Attaining this certification took more than a year of intensive training from UNIDO experts, case studies, examinations and actual EnMS project implementation in an industrial plant.  “This recognition will certainly provide confidence to us and our customers in implementing energy management system (EnMS ISO 50001) and solutions towards meeting their energy efficiency agenda and financial returns” said Eugene Araullo.
